Face primers are fantastic, and even though I don’t wear one every time I do my makeup but if I need my makeup to look flawless I’ll usually use one. Don’t be fooled into thinking they are just another product to buy so brands can get more money, they are much more than that.
In short, primers are fantastic products that you apply after you’ve cleansed and moisturised your skin but before you apply any coverage products like foundation or concealer. Majority of primers are designed to help make your makeup last a lot longer and smooth over the surface of the skin so your makeup applies evenly.
PRIMERS FOR EVERYONE:
If you are looking for a great primer and don’t have any specific skin concerns a silicone based primer designed to help increase the wear of your makeup is best.
PRIMERS FOR DRY/SENSITIVE SKIN:
If you’re someone with dry skin like myself you probably find that makeup has a tendency to appear flaky and cakey on your skin. A hydrating primer can do a wonderful job at making your makeup apply smoothly.
PRIMERS FOR OILY SKIN:
If you’re someone with oily skin you are going to want a primer designed to help reduce the appearance of shine and keep your makeup on all day. Whatever you do, don’t use milk of magnesia.
PRIMERS FOR LARGE PORES/UNEVEN SKIN:
If you’ve suffered with bad acne in the past and have been left with “ice pick” acne scars or just have super large pores on an uneven skin texture a velvety, resurfacing primer is what you want.
PRIMERS FOR FINE LINES/BUMPY SKIN:
If you have wrinkles, are someone who’s just starting to get their first finelines or just someone who has a slightly bumpy, uneven skin texture, a smoothing, silicone based that blurs imperfections are fantastic.
FOR DULL SKIN:
If you have dull skin or just love to rock the dewy skin look a primer that contains light reflecting particles is your best bet. You can also smooth a standard illuminator over your skin before applying makeup for a similar effect.
